Ras Al Khaimah - Finally good news for customers with defective Samsung Galaxy Note 7, 19,000 of which have already been pulled off the UAE market, after discovering a defect in the batteries that caused some handsets to explode while charging.The president of Samsung Electronics Company was reportedly quoted as saying that recalling 2.5 million of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones will cost the company a "heartbreaking amount".Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of the Consumer Protection Department, in a press conference in Ras Al Khaimah, said they have agreed with Samsung Electronics Company to withdraw more of the same model smartphones."Up to 8,000 more devices will be pulled off so that the total Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices to be withdrawn from the UAE market will mount to 27,000 smartphones."However, customers with defective Samsung Note 7 smartphones still have three options, he added."They can replace the defective device with another one but pay the difference in price, collect back their money, or wait for the modified version of the smartphone, and replace their old devices with the new ones."Samsung Electronics Company has already contacted all its Note 7 smartphones customers all over the country and agreed with them on the due procedures to replace or give back their defective devices, he stated."The accredited shopping centres and outlets, like Axiom, has further communicated with its customers and told them about the three options approved by Samsung Electronics Company."The modified Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be available in the UAE markets within two to three weeks, he disclosed. "However, the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology in Abu Dhabi shall examine a sample of the new smartphones to ensure their quality."The Consumer Protection Department of the Ministry of Economy shall be closely monitoring the Company commitment, he noted.
