The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday produced here before a magistrate three accused allegedly involved in the murder of former Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Imran Farooq, who gave their one-day temporary remand to FIA.
The accused - Moazzam Ali, Mohsin and Khalid Shamim - will be produced before an anti-terrorism court on Monday. The FIA registered the case on Saturday and was legally bound to produce them in a court within 24 hours.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain, senior leader Mohammed Anwar and Iftikhar Hussain, who have been named in the FIR, are outside the country and live in London. The FIA is planning to approach Interpol for their arrest and deportation to Pakistan.
Meanwhile, MQM leader Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has condemned the registration of the case against Altaf Hussain and others in Pakistan.
Khalid Siddiqui said Altaf Hussain was never before named in the ongoing investigations into the Dr Imran Farooq murder case. Nominating the MQM chief in the case showed dishonesty on the part of the government, he added. He said MQM condemned the FIR against Altaf Hussain in Pakistan.
Senior legal experts have said there is nothing unusual or illegal in registration of a murder case of a Pakistani citizen even if the incident happened abroad. They referred to the cases registered against several Pakistani accomplices in the Mumbai carnage in 2008.
Imran Farooq was murdered in London in 2010. The three accused have confessed to their involvement and also named Altaf Hussain and other senior leaders for complicity.
