She received the tickets for Ferrari World ride and vouchers to pay for her stay at Yas Hotel with her six-member family on Sunday from a team from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Xerox Emirates, at the Thalassaemia Centre in Dubai.
“I am thrilled and very happy to make my dream come true. I have never been to a theme park. This is my chance to be at the Ferrari World,” Thuraya said.
Her aunt Rabia Rahim said that her niece has been going to the Thalassaemia Centre for two months for medical checkup and blood transfusion. “But, going to Ferrari World means a lot to her. Her two sisters, mum and dad and another family member will accompany her,” Rabia added.
Anu Das, Manager - Wishes, Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE, said that from January to August 5 this year, some 177 kids in the UAE were granted their wishes. “Of this, 126 are in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Every child is special to us.” Six-year-old Mansour also is a thalassaemia patient, who was gifted by the foundation with an iPad 3, his dream possession.
His father said that three of his four kids are suffering from thalassaemia and Mansour is the eldest. “I am bringing all three children —Mansour, Musa and Aisha— once in a month for medical check-up and blood transfusion.
The dreams of Thuraya and Mansour made true as part of campaign titled Make a Difference, initiated by Xerox Emirates in alliance with the Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE.
The campaign includes donations from employees of Xerox Emirates for the children of the foundation, which will be used toward granting wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Abeer Safa, marketing manager of Xerox Emirates, said that they wanted to bring smile to the kids by basically making their dreams come true. “We partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation because these children have severe medical situations that make them very special. This is first time for us to work with the foundation as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility.”
