A Saudi soldier was shot and injured on Tuesday as he was carrying out his job, a security spokesman from the Saudi Interior Ministry said.

The Saudi Press Agency, SPA, reported that First Soldier Walid bin Brik bin Mabrouk Al Hujaili was shot from an unknown source after leaving his security patrol to carry out a field mission in Ohod Street in Qatif governorate, at 11.15pm on Tuesday.

Following the attack, which authorities are treating as a "terrorist crime", the serviceman was transferred to hospital where he is now in a stable condition, added SPA.
