Teenager drowns off Fujairah coast
Identified as Ali Khalfan of class three preparatory, he was practising swimming in the sea, when strong currents drew him deeper before finally disappearing. Khalfan's friends desperately tried to fetch help by screaming, but it was too late by then. Civil Defence servicemen made a vain attempt to retrieve the body from the sea, but gave up after a few hours of search.
The local fishermen also cast their nets wide, and eventually managed to fish out the body. The Public Prosecution was informed of the incident, and after examining the body, allowed the family to go through the burial.
