Kees d' Angremond, Professor Emeritus in Coastal Engineering at the Delft University in the Netherlands who delivered the keynote speech in the inaugural session on the first day of ArabianCoast 2005 said that many things have to be taken care of in coastal engineering.

ArabianCoast 2005 is the First International Conference on Coastal Management and Engineering in the Middle East held at Grand Habtoor Hotel, Dubai.

“Dubai is a place where we not only talk about coastal engineering academically, but we can see it in practice,” he said.

Angremond said the performance of Dubai has so far been up to the point. “When you have such huge amount of artificial developments happening here, it will have a tremendous impact on environment. I think these matters are being taken care of well in Dubai,” he said.

However, Angremond pointed out that there could be unexpected problems due to environmental changes, and hoped Dubai is prepared to take immediate action to tackle such situations.
