The Abu Dhabi New Psychiatric Hospital, Rashid Hospital and Al Ain Hospital, are seeking the accreditation of a UAE training scheme in psychiatry that fulfil the requirements of the Royal College exams part I, Dr Abdul Ghaffar Abdul Ghaffor, Assistant Under-Secretary of the Central Curative Medicine Department at the Ministry of Health, told Khaleej Times on Monday.
Once approved, the three health institutions will be recognised as centres for postgraduate studies in psychiatry, said Dr Ghaffor.
He said a team from the Royal College, headed by Dr Garees Holisgraf, Head of Postgraduate Educational Scheme and Dr Donald Montgomry, Governor of the Basic-training Specialist Advisory Sub-committee, is currently on an official visit to the country to prepare a report about the hospitals and how far do they meet the college requirements for postgraduate training programmes in psychiatry prior to submit it to the Royal College for final approval.
The visit of the Royal College officials, has been preceded by official visits by WHO expert, Dr Christopher Mire and the Sub-Dean of the Royal College, Dr Jermey Bolton, which focused on accreditation of a UAE training programme in psychiatry, that conform with the college requirements for postgraduate training courses in psychiatry, added Dr Abdul Ghaffor.
