Such negative practices are not only causing hazards to the public health but also damaging the city’s environment, they say.
The calls for action against the negative conduct grew louder with the World Environment Day and the Clean-Up the UAE campaign taking place tomorrow.
Khalid Al Bahi, a resident of Al Bustan area in Ajman, said that the solution to this problem requires massive awareness programmes highlighting the importance of the environment protection.
Jamal Al Saeed, another resident of Ajman, said that dumping domestic waste and garbage outside the containers attracts a lot of flies, insects and rodents. It also emanates bad odours much to the annoyance of the residents in the vicinity.
He said that the section had prepared special plans to prevent the accumulation of domestic garbage dumped in various areas of the emirate.
The workers of the section are emptying the garbage containers twice a day to prevent the piling up of wasted food that helps check the spread of diseases.
Yousif said that many a housemaid dumps the wastes outside the containers which is further scattered by stray dogs and cats.
He said that supervisors and workers of the section are working 24-hour in three shifts to maintain the cleanliness by regularly keeping a watch and emptying the garbage containers located in the residential areas and on the corniche and the main roads of the city.
“The municipality always issues fines against those who litter food waste or garbage in different parts of the emirate.” Yousif said that the municipality is putting in huge efforts to spread the awareness among the youth.
