The reports of attempt on life of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while returning from Murree with his family on Sunday proved to wrong, the Interior Ministry said here.
According to the ministry a former Pakistan Air Force officer Commodore (retd) Hafeezur Rehman was detained by the security when his car tried to come close to the prime minister's cars.
"Hafeez was also returning from Murree and tried to overtake the prime minister's convoy, he was arrested by the security but was released soon after ascertaining facts," the ministry said The reports of the alleged attempt were first broadcast by state-run Pakistan Television and Radio Pakistan citing official sources and were later picked up by private print and electronic media.
