Vigilant customs inspectors foiled 437 smuggling attempts into the country in the first half of 2016.
Ras Al Khaimah Customs efficiently countered attempts to smuggle dangerous materials into the emirate, across land, sea and air crossing points.
RAK customs also identified 599 violations in the first half of the year, according to Aisha Al Shehhi, deputy director-general of RAK customs. "All the passengers involved in these violations - mainly to do with price manipulation, tax evasion, and false documents - were penalised as per the punitive law," Al Shehhi said.
The list of contraband seized between January to June 2016 included narcotics, naswar (tobacco snuff), black magic and witchcraft items, and plenty of other illegal stuff, she added. "Our watchful inspectors competently secure all the entrance points of the emirate using the latest technologies, which help curb all smuggling attempts and customs violations."
"High quality cameras are used to monitor all items in the emirate's 10 land, sea and air border points, at the RAK Customs' sophisticated operation and coordination centre, round the clock," Al Shehhi explianed.
Collaboration and integration with RAK law enforcement bodies has also significantly helped detect all the violations that might have been otherwise invisible to the staff inspectors, Al Shehhi emphasised
RAK Customs is will also get two new customs centres soon, and coordinate with the American University of Ras Al Khaimah to qualify human cadres with Bachelor's Degree in Customs starting 2017.
