Islamabad: By-election for National Assembly seat NA-154 Lodhran in southern Punjab was held in a peaceful atmosphere with army personnel providing security at polling stations.
Early results from nearly one-third of 300 polling stations indicated Jehangir Tareen, a senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) was leading with wide margin of more than 9,000 votes over Pakistan Muslim League's (PML-N) Siddiq Baloch.
According to initial media reports, Tareen had secured over 35,000 votes against Baloch's 18,000. PML-N sources, however, said the early unofficial results had come from largely urban polling stations. Baloch is expected to cover the loss when results from rural areas pour in, they said.
Baloch had won against Tareen in May, 2013 polls but was unseated by an election tribunal which found a lot of irregularities during voting.
