Addressing reporters just before leaving for Pakistan, Mr Shah said that there was no tension on the border as the war situation had been averted and everything was under control.

Mr Shah also said that the partly-implemented Shariah law in the NWFP had not evoked any unpleasant reaction. He asked the Pukhtoons, in particular, and all Pakistanis in general to invest in the province.

"The situation is particularly favourable for setting up industries and power projects. The stage is also set for giving a boost to tourism, especially in view of the tight security measures implemented in the province," he said.

Mr Shah also pointed out that NWFP was giving special incentives for tourism and urged the people to develop a tolerant attitude towards foreigners.

Speaking on the education facilities for women, Mr Shah said that the rate was on the rise and the government was paying particular attention to enhancing education facilities for women in the province.

Several community members, who were present on the occasion, demanded increased facilities for exporters at Peshawar Airport. They complained that the capacity for handling cargo was far below their expectations, and it posed many hurdles. Mr Shah called upon the complainants to visit him so that a plan of action could be chalked out.

The community members also complained that the Overseas Pakistani Foundation projects hardly existed in the province. They also said that there were no facilities for the storage of fruits and vegetables. The Pukhtoons also said that remittances being sent to the province were being delayed in delivery.
