The city's public transport system has many strict rules and regulations in place to ensure that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable journey
The Public Transport Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is finalising the last set of technical specifications for the Journey Planner web page on the authority's web site giving all information about the different modes of public transport in Dubai, route maps and fares.
"We are reviewing the last set of technical specifications which include data management, mobile interface and real-time information. We expect to finalise these before the end of this month. The trial phase is expected to be available for internal use in the RTA in November. We will launch the system for the people after the trial," said the official from the Corporate Communication Section in the Public Transport Agency.
According to the information posted on the RTA web site, the system would be uploaded in the near future.
"The system will help passengers calculate the fares of the journey, the easiest and the fastest mode of transport to a selected destination and finding the changing points between buses," the official said.
He added that a person wishing to use this service will have to enter on the web page the name of the place from where he intends to board and the final destination.
All information about the different transport choices, the fares, the time he may take to walk from his present location to reach the nearest public transport station and the probable time to walk to his final destination from the station he would be dropped," the official added.
Users of the Journey Planner can select a destination either by the name of the bus stop or the name of a hotel, library or coffee shop where one is or intends to go.
