Speaking to Khaleej Times, Shaikh Rashid said there were some landlords who had submitted their applications to Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) for power installation very late, close to the date of completion of their construction.
“Under the circumstances, it becomes very difficult to get the power installed immediately after the construction is completed. FEWA has to place order to buy the meters, fuse and all power devices for all apartments of the building and towers which some time accommodate more than 500 flats.”
He stressed that the current power production in the emirate is sufficient for the ongoing projects, but it will not be sufficient for projects in the next three years.
As the Ajman government understands that FEWA will not be able to fulfill the future power requirements in the emirate due to the boom in the construction field, it has already devised plans to launch a power production plant to meet such needs for the next 20 years, Shaikh Rashid pointed out.
He noted that the Al Zowra plant will be operational in April next year, but meanwhile the connection from Abu Dhabi power plant to Ajman will fulfil any existing shortage. The FEWA is also working on completing Al Fujairah’s grand power plant to supply power to all the Northern Emirates, including Ajman.
Shaikh Rashid assured that all newly-constructed buildings will soon be connected with power cables. He also urged the landlords not to postpone applying for power connection till the completion of the construction work.
He said that any development in terms of investment would require development of services and infrastructure projects to attract investors. The Ajman government is making great efforts to enhance its infrastructure projects to ensure all services provided for investors as well as residents in the emirate.
The power plant project will soon be executed as many contracts have been signed with foreign companies which will carry out the projects.
An official at FEWA office in Ajman, when contacted, refused to comment on the issue regarding quantity of power production in Ajman.
