Authorities in Sharjah have launched an initiative to light up a number of dark streets and neighbourhoods in the emirate.
The Noor of Sharjah (Light of Sharjah) initiative aims at enhancing security, reducing crime rates and strengthening positive interaction between public and private sectors. The initiative is launched in coordination with the Sharjah Police, in collaboration with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SCCI), the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa), Sharjah Municipality and the Department of Town Planning and Survey.
Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadhi, director-general of the SCCI, stressed that the initiative aligns with the SCCI's constant eagerness to activate joint action to launch qualitative initiatives that contribute to serving the community. He noted that the initiative also aims to cut crime rates across the emirate and to fulfil the business community's aspirations, especially as it targets several streets in the industrial areas.
Brigadier-General Mohammed Rashid Bayat, director-general of Police Operations at the Sharjah Police General Headquarters, said that the launch of the community initiative aims to enhance public safety and security.
He indicated that Al Nahda will be one of the first neighbourhoods to be illuminated. "Al Nahda has been selected as part of the police's "Safe Neighbourhood" initiative, launched recently to intensify efforts to increase the sense of safety and security and reduce crime rate," he added.
