The traditional cookery competition is being sponsored by Co-Op Islami as one of the main competitions of the Heritage Surprises theme week.

At the venue, they are also distributing pamphlets with information about the company's products and policies.

The winners of the third day's competitions, where the competitors made 'Meat and Rice' were Alia Saif, who won the first prize of Dh3,000, Manal Hozaam, who won the second prize worth Dh2,000, and Badriya Abdulsattar Qassim, who won the third prize of Dh1,000.

Maitha Gobash, Administration Coordinator, Dubai Summer Surprises, said, "The response and encouragement we are receiving for these competitions is heartening. Although we consider most of these dishes to be Arabic, there are so many non-Arabs who participate in the competitions. The schedule for the cooking competition follows. On 12 August it is Chicken Biryani, and on 13 August, it is Lugaimat and Khanfaroosh. Each dish should be prepared individually by the participant, and should not be over 2kg.

Participants can register by visiting the reception desk at the DSS office, 2nd Floor, Dubai Department of Economic Development Building, the Modhesh Fun City, Airport Expo- East Hall, or by calling the Dubai Festival helpline, Ahlan Dubai, at 600- 545 555.
