The ministers are participating in the launch of the Arab Water Academy which is being organised by the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency in conjunction with the International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture.

During the meeting, General Shaikh Mohammed called on officials to evolve strategies for rational and sustainable use of water resources. He stressed the need to take their impact on environment into account while devising water management policies.

The Arab Water Academy was launched at a ceremony at Emirates Palace in the presence of several ministers of water from the Arab region.

The ceremony was followed by a workshop on the planning and design of Awa-flagship courses.

The academy has been established as a training institute by the Arab Water Council, supported by the Environment Agency — Abu Dhabi, International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture (Icba), the Islamic Development Bank and the World Bank.

It is a specialised institute established to articulate, design and implement new training initiatives to enhance capacity building in the water sector.

The academy is a significant investment in the human capital of decision makers, professionals and scientists working in the water sector and associated fields.
