More than 100 enthusiasts converged in Lehbab located on the Dubai-Hatta route to watch the celestial activity that started around 2am.
"It was an amazing experience. We watched 19 meteors glowing in different colours. The dark sky helped us to see the shooting of meteors better," said Hassan Ahmed Al Hariri, chairman of the Dubai Astronomy Group.
"More than 100 people, including children and women, reached the venue by midnight. We gave them lessons in the celestial activities. We spend two hours watching the beautiful spectacle."
Vidya Gopalakrishnan, audiovisual engineer with Alpha Data Company, said, "It was an exciting morning. Most of the meteors glowed several times in the sky before disappearing. And it was fun watching the activity with a group of people."
Al Hariri said two more astronomy events are lined up this month. A partial lunar eclipse would happen on August 16 and a gathering is arranged in Mamzar lagoon to watch the activity. "Everybody is welcome to join us. We will also give classes on the celestial activity," he said.
Another exciting event would take place on August 24 when powerful star Canopus, which is 15,000 times more luminous than the sun, will be seen rising in the UAE skies just before daybreak, Hariri said.
