A GCC national was charged by the Ras Al Khaimah Misdemeanor Court for reckless driving, causing an accident, fleeing the site and failing to provide help to the injured victim.
According to the prosecution, the accused did not have a licence and drove the car at a high speed. He is also facing charges of wrong-way driving, also known as ghost driving or against the direction of traffic.
Attempting to escape the scene and flee from the traffic police, the defendant put the car on reverse and drove it in an improper way.
The suspect was arrested, referred to the public prosecution, and then brought to the misdemeanor court where he admitted to having driven a car without a licence, wrong-way driving, and fleeing the traffic police.
However, he denied driving the car on reverse, being involved in a traffic accident and failure to provide help to the injured.
A prosecution witness told the court that the defendant managed to take the car of his friend (second suspect) who works at a motor garage.
"The friend, who failed to appear in court, let him drive the car though he was well aware that he did not have a driving licence that he ended up a serious traffic accident and critical breaches."
