Throughout his trial, the 33-year-old defendant pleaded not guilty to the molestation charges and claimed he had consensual sex with the victim.

The Egyptian was accused of molesting the Filipina in the elevator of a building in Muraqqabat area after luring her into a meeting him for a job opportunity. The 34-year-old visitor had testified that on the day of the incident, she got a missed call from an unknown number at about 8.45am. When she called back at the number, a man (the defendant) picked up the phone, saying there was a job vacancy at a coffee shop in Muraqqabat area. He also told her that a friend of her had given him her number.

Later, she met him at Hamarayn Centre, and from there they walked for more than 35 minutes. As they approached a building on Riqqa Street, the defendant dragged her into the elevator and molested her.

The Filipina sought the help of security guards who called the police.
