Set in the heart of the capital, the mosque is the largest one in Abu Dhabi (apart from the Zayed Mosque under construction) and it is one of the oldest ones too. Most of the visitors are residents who live nearby.

Ahmed Abu Hassan, a regular at the mosque, said that earlier it used to provide Iftar meals. “I don't know why, but this year they are only offering water and dates. So many of us bring our own food.”

The Khalifa bin Zayed Mosque is also supporting the Red Crescent (RC) Ramadan charity fundraising this year. An RC booth has been set up in the outdoor praying area of the court, where donors can contribute to any of the 16 charitable programmes that include Red Crescent Care of Life, Relief for Pakistan, Mosques Construction and Rehabilitation and Zakat Al Fitr.

The imam said there are always special sermons during Ramadan.

For Taraweeh the mosque remains open till 11 pm.
