After Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced the news about the UAE's $100 million aid for the state's flood relief on Tuesday, the country was all praise for the UAE and its leadership.
Vijayan, at a news conference on Tuesday morning, announced that the UAE Government had pledged to give $100 million (Rs700 crore) in aid to the state, which suffered a loss of around $3 billion in a flood that killed more than 300 people.
Over 1 million people were evacuated over the past week and are living in relief camps opened across the state.
Kerala newspapers also gave thanks to the UAE's humanitarian efforts. The front page of Malayalam daily Mathrubhumi showed photos of the UAE leaders with a message that read "Nanni UAE". Below, the paper explains that it literally means "Thank you UAE". It also read: "We at Mathrubhumi would like to thank the wise leaders of the UAE for forming a National Emergency Committee and extending every support to us in our hour of need."
Other Kerala news outlets such as Manorama and Madhayam ran similar messages of gratitude on their websites.
Social media, including Twitter, Facebook and Google Plus were flooded with thank you messages for the UAE and its leaders.
Social media posts, many of them by Keralite expats living in the UAE, said this is what made them call the UAE their second home.
Graphic works depicting the UAE offering a hand of rescue to Kerala from flood water, the UAE as an umbrella etc. also became popular.
Many people changed their profile pictures and cover photos in honour of the UAE's help.
