As the case history goes, Mahadi, who arrived in UAE on a visit visa, befriended Jamshed J at Baniyas Park in Naef area the day he landed in the country. Taking pity on the plight of his unemployed fellow countryman, who had just Dh300 in his pocket, Jamshed offered to put up Mahadi at his hotel room nearby till the latter got a job. On the very second day, the two got into an argument and Mahadi stabbed the person who tried to help him out. He then stole the victim’s mobile phone and some money.

In an effort to hide the identity of the victim, Mahadi allegedly burnt his body. While he was waiting at the reception after committing the murder, he heard the attender scream from Jamshed’s room when he came across the body. The alleged murderer took off and headed straight to Sharjah airport to return to Iran, but developed cold feet.

He spent the night in a mosque and tried to get a ticket for Iran from a travel agent, but found that all flights were booked till May 2. Subsequently, he checked into a Sharjah hotel, from where he was arrested following a raid by the police on April 28.

During interrogation, Mahadi, however, denied having burnt the body, and said it may have been caused by a cigarette.
