Afriendly cricket match between stars from India and Pakistan has been scheduled for February 16 followed by a star-studded Indo-Pak Mega Achievements Awards function on February 17 at Al Ahli Stadium in Dubai.
Addressing a Press conference, attended by Pakistani film actress Meera and Indian film star Suhail Khan, Riyaz Bhatti, Managing Director, Show Blitz LLC, the organisers of the show, said: “A huge line-up of popular stars from Pakistan including Meera, Zara Shaikh and Resham and from India including Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Fardeen Khan, Urmila Matondkar, Shilpa Shetty, Esha Deol and Priyanka Chopra will come together for the first time to pledge their support towards enhancing cultural ties between Pakistan and India as well as raising funds for tsunami victims.”
Ajay Sethi, Chairman Channel 7-2-9 said, “I believe that cultural ties bind India and Pakistan together. Entertainment is one which transcends all barriers and these events will serve as a platform to further strengthen the relations. Artistes from both countries will be honoured at the event which is aimed at recognising individuals who have contributed to the development of cinema both regionally and internationally.”
Suhail Khan said, “I am deeply moved by the people of Pakistan who have gone an extra mile to lend a hand and mobilise funds for the tsunami victims.”
Meera said, “This is the first time that the Pakistani stars will be performing alongside their Indian counterparts and we are happy to be contributing our best for the tsunami victims.”
The complete proceeds of the Indo-Pak friendly match including auctioning of the stars cricket gear will be donated to tsunami victims. Additionally, a luxury car autographed by stars from both countries will also be auctioned on the same night. Part of the funds will be coordinated between Indian Prime Minister’s Relief fund for tsunami, Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Charitable Establishment and Unicef.
Barbara Castek, Head of Dubai Aid City said, “We are proud to be promoting an occasion of this stature which will not only foster good relations between the two countries but also facilitate the proceeds from the event towards a noble and charitable cause.”
Walid Hareb, Senior Manager JAFZA said, “Our freezone comprises many companies from the South Asian countries and we are obliged to have been involved in this noble cause.”
Omar Shehadeh, Unicef UAE said, “We look forward to patrons coming up in large numbers and participating in the events and auctions to support this noble cause.”
