Not all heroes wear capes - many of them are out there, silently toiling away, rain or shine.
This holy month, a group of expats is celebrating these unsung heroes by gifting them baskets of food essentials and Ramadan specials.
"People can have the chance to gift these baskets to workers and we will deliver them to various labour camps, at the original cost and without extra charges," said Rohit Sharma, the 26-year-old founder of Pink Mango Project, which was launched three years ago. The group now has 20 members.
"The project is a simple idea of a few young minds who have active disposable income and would like to contribute towards the happiness and well-being of society," he said.
They have partnered with joi gifts this Ramadan for 'Project Heroes', the group's 13th initiative of delivering gifts to workers.
The project kicked off on Sunday.
"We wanted to make it easier for people who want to share the spirit of Ramadan but do not know how to do so," Sharma told Khaleej Times.
Project Heroes offers five different types of gift baskets and each of them constitutes a mix of food items - such as rice, oil, sugar and tea - and toiletries, such as toothbrush, shampoo and soap.
Every basket is personally delivered to a single hero by Pink Mango Project volunteers, who also record any video message the hero would like to relay to the person who ordered the gift, said Sharma.
Orders will be taken until June 4, with prices ranging from Dh49 to Dh249.
"We had over 100 orders last year but we were late then. We hope this project draws in even more senders who want to celebrate the spirit of Ramadan," he said.
In 2016, Pink Mango had a similar project titled Project Light, in which workers were invited for a special Iftar.
