His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Sunday officially opened the 33rd edition of Gitex 2013 – the largest information, communication and technology show in the Middle East.

The five-day event, which is being held at Dubai’s World Trade Centre, is expected to welcome more than 130,000 ICT professionals and trade visitors from 150 countries.

Sponsored by the UAE Ministry of Finance, the event will see a 26 per cent increase in international exhibitors and a 12 per cent increase in exhibitors this year. This year event sees 25 per cent more participation of government departments.

On the sidelines of the show, Etisalat Group celebrated an enduring partnership with MasterCard that has brought award-winning technology to the market.

“Over the last few years, Etisalat has used GITEX as a platform to launch innovative solutions that are now being used by millions of people all over the world,” said Khalifa Al Shamsi, Chief Digital Services Officer at Etisalat Group.

“We’re now looking at ways to build on this successful partnership with MasterCard using the technologies of tomorrow such as this innovative payment product we are showcasing today.”

Samsung Gulf Electronics Co Ltd also announced the launch of the world’s largest display unit for luxury retail outlets. The 95-inch Large Format Display (LFD), which is available for the first time in the region, offers LED Backlit technology (, crystal clear picture quality and superior reliability.

Panasonic has unveiled the Toughpad 4K UT-MB5, the world’s first 20 inch tablet with a 4K resolution display for the Middle East and Africa markets, at GITEX 2013.

The Toughpad 4K - UT-MB5 is the flagship product in Panasonic’s groundbreaking new Ultra-High Definition Toughpad range.
