The police said the gang members used to board taxis and ask the cabbies to take them to isolated areas where they would threaten the drivers at knifepoint and take away cash, mobile phones and other valuables.

The same gang was also found to be behind thefts of electric cables from buildings under construction.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Brigadier Shaikh Sultan Al Nuaimi, Deputy Director of Ajman Police, said the police had received complaints from several taxi drivers that they were robbed by three Pakistani nationals who hired taxis in the late hours in the night to go to the industrial areas.

A team of CID sleuths headed by Major Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, Head of the CID section, was formed.

Following intensified investigation and from the descriptions given by the taxi drivers about the suspects, the police managed to arrest three members red handed carrying stolen mobile phones and electric cables. All of them have confessed to their crimes, Al Nuaimi said.
