After the soft opening on November 12, Global Village organisers had their hands full trying to manage its first weekend rush.
The visitors did not seem to mind the Dh10 entrance fee to the Global Village, or the Dh40 charge for valet parking, situated right in front of entrance gates 1 and 2.
Imran Khan, a college student, who was paying his first visit to the Global Village this year said: “There isn’t anything different here from the last year, but the lineup for the performers are pretty impressive.”
The biggest crowd-puller seems to be the Guinness Records Pavilion where visitors practise for attempts in creating a world record, every week.
Zainab Harwarewala who was seen outside the Guinness Pavilion said: “It’s getting bigger, it is a lot more convenient since it is open for a longer time. The jetski performance was worth watching.”
Tamara Fadhli, who was checking out the various attempts to break the Guinness records, said: “The ambience is a lot better better as compared to the previous location. The canals and the bridges add to the charm of the place.”
Besides the attractions at the Global Village, UAE national, Hareb Esa voiced concern over the food and entrance fees being too heavy.
“We come to the Global Village with the entire family, and I have a family of six. Providing for the entire family, and buying them food, toys and entertainment charges can be heavy on the budget.”
Organisers and pavilion managers are expecting a huge crowd during the Eid and National Day holidays.
One of the stall managers at the Indian pavilion said: “The crowd during the weekend at our stall alone was about 600-700 people, so we are expecting a huge crowd during the holidays.” dhanusha@khaleejtimes.com
