Ajman - The Ajman Police have issued fines to 277 pedestrians for crossing the road from unauthorised areas as part of its three-month awareness campaign titled ‘Be cautious of safety of pedestrians’.

A senior police official said traffic cops were deployed on various streets of the emirate to distribute publications in different languages to educate drivers and pedestrians about traffic safety rules and the applicable fines for violations.

The campaign is aimed at spreading traffic safety culture among the public to minimise run-over accidents.

The police officer pointed out that jaywalkers can be fined Dh200 according to article 147 of the federal traffic law.

“We urge motorists to stop when approaching pedestrian areas and advise pedestrians to cross the roads only from authorised areas.”

The campaign will continue in all schools in Ajman to educate students about traffic safety.
