Pakistan has closed the chapter of seeking F16 fighter jets from the US and will now opt for Jordan-owned F16 jets, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry said here on Monday.
Briefing the Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Foreign Policy, he said the US seemed to be satisfied with Pakistan's decision.
Aizaz said that one of the reasons for strained relations with the US were Pakistan's close ties with China.
"Pakistan cannot cooperate with the US on certain issues," he said. "One of these issues is its sovereignty."
He added that strained relations with the US were nothing new for Pakistan.
Condemning the US policy of the war on terror he said, the US "has spent 16 years fighting the war on terror. If only it had given six months to the peace process, things would have been different." He asked the United States to make its objectives clear if it wants dialogue or war to achieve peace in Afghanistan.
The Foreign Secretary said the US representatives had been told that US drone strike killing Afghan Taleban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour was a hasty move.
The foreign secretary said the United States was oblivious to Pakistan's security concerns, adding that drone strikes were priority of the government's agenda.
Aizaz said that according to passport details, Mullah Mansour was travelling from Iran and added that the record of Iranian city Taftan was available as well. - Agencies
