A young Emirati man, in his twenties, succumbed to fatal injuries he received after the car he was travelling in collided with another car on the Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed road here in Umm Al Quwain.
Col Saeed Obaid bin Arran, Director General of the Traffic and Patrols Department of the UAQ police, said that the mishap took place late on Wednesday in the direction of the Falaj Al Mualla.
"The victim, identified only as H.M., was driving his car on the correct lane when he was surprised with another car, driven by a woman, who entered the main road from a U-turn without checking."
The young man tried to avoid collision with the erring driver, but to no avail, lost control over the steering wheel and veered off the road, he added. "The victim's car turned over several times, and rammed into a road sign."
The impact of the collision was so strong that the victim, who was not buckled up, was forced out of the sunroof, he explained. "The young man sustained gruesome injuries all over his body, mainly in his head, and died on the spot."
The central operations room of the UAQ Police, having been alerted of the collision, dispatched traffic police, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site in record time.
"Unfortunately, the young driver could not make it because of the fatal injuries and excessive bleeding, and instantly died," he said. "The victim's corpse was moved to the morgues of the hospital for burial by relatives."
The accident file was referred to the UAQ traffic prosecution for legal action as due, Col Bin Arran stated. "The driver of the other car, who was blamed for the accident, received no injuries."
The main reasons behind the tragic loss were the woman driver's failure to check if the road was clear before making a U-turn, and the victim's failure to buckle up, he explained.
"All drivers are urged to observe speed limits, be attentive around U-turns, never enter a road without checking if it is clear, and always buckle up when driving," he underlined.
Few days back, a four-year-old Arab girl succumbed to fatal injuries she received after the car she was travelling in with her father, mother and brother collided with a taxi on the Ittihad Bridge here in Umm Al Quwain.
"The tragic mishap, which took place on the Etihad Bridge in the direction of the King Faisal road, was blamed on the father could not help ramming into a taxi ahead after the cabbie who suddenly pulled over."
