US expat Craigrey David Christophe and UAE national Shamsa Matar were awarded a car each by the Dubai Police to acknowledge their commitment to traffic rules. Christophe bagged a Hyundai after being picked as winner of the White Points system, while Shams took home a Nissan. She won the award under the category 'Youth Amanah 2018' meant to honour young drivers (aged between 18 and 21) who have temporary driving licence and abide by traffic laws.
The awards were given away by Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin, assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police for Operations, in the presence of Colonel Juma Bin Suwaidan, deputy director-general of traffic department, and Lieutenant General Salah Abdullah Al Hammadi.
The ceremony was organised by the general department of traffic in cooperation with its strategic partners. The winners were decided through a draw held on April 7.
Congratulating the winners, Al Zafin stressed that the White Points system aims to honour and motivate outstanding drivers who follow traffic laws and drive safely, while creating a safe traffic environment that boosts a sense of security among all road-users.
A visibly elated Christophe said the Dubai Police surprised him by announcing his name as winner of White Points system. "I feel happy to receive this award and it shows the keenness of the Dubai Police to promote safe driving," he added.
Shamsa also expressed her happiness over winning the car. She said, "I did not expect to win the award," she said, adding that youths must adhere to traffic laws and not pose risks to others as well as themselves.
