An Indian expat who lost 20kg in just six months said his favourite memory of his weight loss journey was seeing his child cutting junk food out of his own diet after seeing his father's efforts.
Deepak Singh, 43, is one of the many UAE residents who took on the Dubai Fitness Challenge and is keen on keeping fit throughout the initiative, even though he recently lost 20kg to lead a healthier life.
Just half a year ago, the logistics and sales manager weighed 110kg. Now he's down to 90kg after working out with a Dubai-based fitness trainer, Vibhor Adhran.
"There were no illnesses but when I looked at myself in the mirror, it wasn't a good feeling. My stomach was coming out. I wasn't feeling healthy and I was getting tired easily. So I thought it was time to lose the weight, especially because I have a high blood pressure," Singh said.
"It was mainly because of bad lifestyle choices. I used to reach the office at 6.30am. I would come back around 7pm to 7.30pm, and there was no time for physical activities. I would eat out sometimes."
Then he started going to the gym regularly, worked out for an hour every day, and followed a keto diet. "I have a 12-year-old son who also started cutting a little bit of junk food out of his diet. He was motivated to eat healthier. He really started limiting the amount of sweets he was consuming. I was very happy to see that," Singh said.
"It's very important for people my age to keep healthy. You are reaching a point where you have to keep yourself fit so you can enjoy your time with your family."
He added that weight issues may be preventing people from enjoying what they are doing. "The results have been very good and after losing the weight, I now fit in the clothes that were stuck in my wardrobe for many years."
