Jacob joined the company on March 21, 2004, at a salary of Dh2000. After the completion of six months, the company reduced his salary to Dh800, after making Jacob sign the contract without notifying him of the details, including the salary of Dh800. When Jacob refused to accept the salary, his services were terminated.

Commenting on the case, Abu Bakar of Gulf Consultant Advocates and Legal Services, said labourers should read the contract before signing it. He also pointed out that workers were often scared of reporting such cases fearing the legal process would take a long time. In fact, the Dubai Courts are fast in delivering judgment on labour cases, he added.
