Speaking to Khaleej Times, the builder of the lamp, Hartmut Senkel said, "The idea of building such a lamp came to me in the 1970's. In today's world of speed and sound, we need silence, which is reflected through this lamp."

Mr Senkel also said that an approximate Euros 20 million were to build the lamp to perfection. "We have already completed the research, while the model and designs are also all ready for implementation," he said. "All material for construction of the lamp will be brought in from Germany," added Mr Senkel.

Hamad Mohammed bin Mejren, Manager, Missions at DTCM said, "Dubai is honoured to support such a project. We will help and provide the necessary information and contacts for this unique project, but we will not be financing it."

"Dubai is a place for firsts and this is the reason why we are supporting this project as it will the tallest lava lamp in the world. The presence of the lamp will also prove to be a great tourist attraction and, we think, Dubai Land is the ideal place for such a project," added Mr Mejren.

He also said that the Dubai government provides all kind of support to businessmen and investors who are willing to do business in Dubai. "Supporting such projects is part of our duty," he said.

"We have already worked for 18 months and completed a 2.5 metre model successfully though it was a tough job," he said. Explaining the working of a lava lamp, Mr Senkel said, "The lamp is made by using paraffin and wax, and then it is given the right kind of heat which leads to the formation of bubbles. As paraffin dilates, it makes the wax go up and down."

Pravin Mukhia, Architect, Pravin Mukhia Design Group is coordinating the project between DTCM and German-based MMR company. Mr Senkel will be making presentations in Dubai Airport Freezone, Jebel Ali Free Zone and Dubai Media City in the coming days.
