Breastfeeding FriendsAssociation, a health-supporting association set up under Sharjah's Supreme Council for Family Affairs, honoured a number of mothers who breastfed their children for the full ideal period for breastfeeding. This recognition is a gesture of appreciation to the mothers' role in providing healthy nutrition and care for their children, on the occasion of Mother's Day.
Held yesterday at the University College of Mother and Family Sciences in Ajman, the event was attended by Naji Al Hai Mubarak, acting Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Prof. Maher Mahdi, from the University, Eman Rashid Saif, Director of Health Promotion Department at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah; and Eng. Khawla Al Noman, Head of Breastfeeding Friends Association. In addition to that, the event was attended by members of the associations administration with large presence of women and their children, along with local media representatives, and sponsors.
Khawla Al Noman said: "The wise directives of Shaikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs have inspired us to celebrate mothers who dedicated their full attention to their children, by providing natural feeding to maintain their children's health, contributing to their sound growth and reducing chances for many serious, infectious diseases."
The Breastfeeding Friends Association honored about 40 mothers that breastfeed their children for the full period ideal for breastfeeding of 2 years, in addition to honoring institutions and companies that offered several gifts to the mothers.
The event saw the screening of two short films, one highlighted the prodigious humanitarian role of a mother, while the other was about the Breastfeeding Friends Association. The event also featured a storytelling activity, in line with the Month of Reading, and a recitation of an anthem about mothers by a group of children.
