The Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF), as part of its drive to improve social security and enhance the role of endowments or waqf in sustainable development, has contributed Dh500,000 to widows here.
The contribution is in execution of the will of the late Ahmad Muhammad Baghlaf, according to Tayeb Al Rais, Secretary General, the Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation.
"A cheque of the donation has been handed over to the Tarahum Charity Foundation to spend on the widows who has no income to meet their needs and be able to continue their lives in an honourable way."
The widows, having no breadwinners, are of the most vulnerable segments of the society in need for help and support, he added. "The kind gesture will help ease their suffering and fulfil their requirements."
The Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation, earlier this month, had handed over a cheque of Dh200,000 to the Tarahum Charity Foundation to spend on the defaulters and those in debt here."
"The Foundation spares no effort to best manage, develop, invest, protect, and care for the endowment funds, and duly disburse their proceeds as per studied plans and enlightened vision."
The Foundation honestly takes care of all the minors' affairs, efficiently invests their money, socially support them, perfectly rehabilitate and empower them, Al Rais underlined.

"We are running a number of critical projects, most importantly Family Village that is earmarked for orphaned children, as well as the Salma project which is meant to provide read-made meals to disaster victims around the globe."
The Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation had further launched an initiative to provide a number of important services to a list of eligible beneficiaries at their homes, particularly widows and elderly people.
"The beneficiaries include sixty-year-old people and above, as well as the widows passing through the Idda period (a mandatory waiting period for divorced and widowed women)."
Khaled Al Thani, Deputy Secretary General of AMAF, said they seek to provide the best innovative services to our customers in order to meet their various demands in line with the directives of our wise leadership.
"The initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to interact with the widows, support them as advised by our religion's principles to enhance social solidarity in our society."
