Several violations were detected during a special inspection campaign which started earlier last month as part the emirate's preparation for the holy month of Ramadan.
Municipality inspectors are currently inspecting all cafeterias, restaurant and cafes to ensure that they are abiding by the comprehensive health regulations as stipulated by the civic body. Those found violating these regulations have been given one month's grace period to improve their services.
Saif Salim Al Shamsi, Deputy Director General of the Ajman Municipality, told Khaleej Times that the health inspection section always keeps a keen eye on the hygienic conditions prevailing in cafes and restaurants. Surprise inspections are conducted from time to time to ensure that these outlets are observing and maintaining the required standards of cleanliness and health safety. The municipality’s current round of inspections is aimed primarily at ensuring a healthy atmosphere during the holy month of Ramadan, when these restaurants and cafeterias will be thronged by bachelors and others who depend on them for their daily Iftar. "In fact, some families also prefer to have iftar in such restaurants during the weekends," he added.
Around 17 inspectors from Health and License directorates as well as the Waste Section are participating in this campaign
The municipal checks will also include checking the quality of shisha tobacco, which will be tested in the laboratory. The inspectors are also instructed to oblige the shisha cafes to change the stones and water and use disposable filter tips as a precautionary measure.
