A Saudi aviation student and his Filipino flying instructor were reported missing in the Philippines after their plane disappeared during a training flight on May 18.
Abdullah Khalid Al Sherif, 23, was studying at an aviation school in the Philippines and had set out on a training flight along with his instructor. The plane was last reported to be flying over the Occidental Mindoro area when it disappeared from the radar.
The Saudi Embassy along with the Philippines authorities have since initiated a massive search operation. "The Saudi Foreign Ministry constantly follows up with the embassy on search for the student. We will continue to make efforts to search for him in coordination with the Philippine Interior Ministry, Defence Ministry, Civil Aviation Authority and other agencies concerned," official statement from the Saudi Embassy read.
The mysterious disappearance of the plane, has led the trainee pilot's family to suspect the aircraft has been hijacked. "Evidence and information available to us indicate that the aircraft has been hijacked," The Filipino Times quoted Saudi youth's father, Abdul Majuid, as saying in Saudi news portal Ajel.
