A walk for special needs children at Rashid Paediatric Centre

Emirati banker Nasser Ibrahim completed a 100-kilometre walk from Abu Dhabi to Dubai to successfully raise Dh50,000 for the Rashid Paediatric Centre.

Emirati banker Nasser Ibrahim completed a 100-kilometre walk from Abu Dhabi to Dubai on Monday afternoon, to successfully raise Dh50,000 for the Rashid Paediatric Centre.

Starting his journey from Abu Dhabi International Airport, Ibrahim reached the Mashreq Bank office in Dubai Internet City at 4pm.

Setting out from Abu Dhabi at 12.30pm on Saturday, Ibrahim walked 59,000 steps on his first day. Accompanied by two friends, he covered another 49,000 steps on the second day.

“I always wanted to create awareness about special needs children and ensure there is action to focus on the abilities of these kids. It is our job to integrate them with the community,” said Ibrahim.

In the last leg of his walk, Ibrahim walked 25,000 steps before completing his journey after walking for 48 hours.

Ibrahim shared a few experiences from the walk as he said, “There were two cars who stopped by while we were walking on the sidewalk. Both of them offered to help us with a ride. The first one thought we were crazy.”

Ibrahim slept only for 10 hours and a little over five hours were spent eating meals.

“I want to contribute for different causes and help different initiatives,” he added.

Mashreq bank donated Dh50,000 to the Rashed Pediatric Centre following the completion of the walkathon. AbdulAziz Al Ghurair presented a cheque for this amount on behalf of the bank to Mariam Othman, Director of the Rashid Centre for Disabled.
