The Dh57 potty, made from leftover materials from farming, is just one of the sustainable products available under the newly launched brand, The Gecostore.

By launching the initiative on World Environment Day, The Gecostore wants to reinforce its commitment to the local community and sustainability: ‘Think Globally - Act Locally’. For instance, after two years of use, the disposable potty can just be buried in mud where it will disintegrate and merge with soil, unlike the plastic ones that are just tossed away.

The idea behind this Goumbook’s store is to group all products and services under one roof, with the aim to prove that going green and making a positive impact on the environment can be an easy task.

The Gecostore offers over 400 eco-solutions, products and services, all locally sourced. From lice bomb hair gels to green gadgets and appliances, solar lights, reusable gift and shopping bags, recycled paper and stationery, eco-friendly shower-heads, eco-friendly toys, green books, BPA-free water bottles and lunch boxes, palm candles, organic beauty products, organic table linen, solar chargers, bamboo fashion, eco-friendly household cleaners, biodegradable tableware and eco-friendly pet products, all that have gone through a systematic process to ascertain quality, design and eco-consciousness.

The company also supports environment-friendly manufacturers and designers as well as local charities and NGOs.

Tatiana Antonelli, managing director at Goumbook and founder of The Gecostore, said: “To be sustainable doesn’t mean to forget about beauty and design.”

Another useful aspect of the Gecostore is that it also offers eco-services such as energy audits and water conservation measures that could reduce the energy bill by up to 30 per cent. A “free of charge” audit can be done to ascertain what your energy consumption is and how you can save money, reducing your energy bill.

Jesus Gutierrez, co-director of The Gecostore, said: “True cost savings come from reducing your energy and water consumption, which also lowers your carbon footprint. That is why we are committed to show all UAE residents smart ways to save with a clear output in their monthly bill.

“We also want to give back to the local community and we have chosen to support the local businesses.”
