A fire that broke out on the 17th floor of a building in Ajman may have been caused by an incense burner, a civil defence official has said.
Three residents of adjacent flats - an Egyptian woman, 67; an Indian man, 48; and a Saudi woman, 58, suffered suffocation due to the fire. They were rushed to the Khalifa Hospital.
Colonel Nasser Al Zeri, spokesperson of the Ajman Civil Defence, said an incense burner kept in the room could have been the cause of the fire, but only forensic experts can confirm this.
The fire broke out in a building in Al Rashidiya 3 on Saturday night. The Somali family that had rented the flat were not present when the fire broke out.
Col Al Zeri said the incident was reported at 11pm and the fire was contained in under 20 minutes. The police evacuated the building to ensure the safety of the residents.
