18 Teachers Complete Course to Develop Leadership Skills in Young Emiratis

ABU DHABI - Eighteen higher education teachers have completed an experiential learning initiative, Leadership Academy, which is designed specifically to develop and promote leadership and life skills in young Emiratis.

Tawteen invited the teachers to undertake the course and experience the same training curriculum that would be offered to the students, in an effort to develop stronger ties between Tawteen and the UAE’s
academic institutions.

The Tawteen Programme was launched in February 2007 as an initiative of the Emirates Foundation. It works with a number of private sector and educational partners to help young Emiratis develop the relevant skills and mindset for future employment in the private sector.

In addition to being introduced to a wide range of leadership theories, the 18 teachers also took part in a number of training activities, which have been specifically designed to introduce and reinforce leadership qualities
and skills.

All teachers who completed the leadership training course graduated with a formal Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading from the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), the UK’s largestmanagement training body.

On completing the training course, Nalini Malhotra, a teacher from the training programme, said, “To have the opportunity to experience the training at first hand and to undertake the same activities with the students is a significant development. It means that, as teachers, we will be able to better relate to what our students experience on these courses.”
