What were you doing 10 years ago, or what did you look like a decade back? That seems to be one of the biggest questions that has hit social media recently, in the form of the viral hashtag #10YearChallenge. In the latest challenge to hit social media, participants must upload a photo of themselves from 10 years ago vis-à-vis a current one.
The challenge has seen some high-profile participants and one of them is Dubai celebrity chef Nusret Gokce, AKA Salt Bae.
Taking to Instagram, the celebrity chef shared his take on the challenge. He posted a photo of himself as a young man in the kitchen in 1998 alongside a recent shot from 2018, creating a 20-year version of the #10YearChallenge. He didn't share details about where he was or what was he doing back in 1998, but a report from a Turkish outlet attempts to shed light on his humble beginnings.
According to Aksam, Nusret first started his career at a butcher's market in Bostanci, Istanbul. Talking to the news outlet, Nusret said: "I never took an annual leave and didn't apply for overtime. I was working with 10 master butchers and remained active for 18 hours a day."1998??2019#saltbae #saltlife #saltView this post on Instagram

What is the #10YearChallenge?
At its very core, the 10-year challenge is quite simple - upload a photo of yourself from a decade ago alongside a photo of you now.
The challenge is also known by different names, including "2009 vs 2019" Challenge, or the "Glow Up" Challenge, Vox wrote.
Since 2019 began, the challenge has been making the rounds on popular social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Despite this, the challenge isn't really new and has resurfaced every January.
But this didn't stop celebrities from jumping in on the bandwagon and sharing split-screen photos of themselves. Notable figures who took the challenge to the next level include Phil Collins, Miley Cyrus, Caitlyn Jenner and supermodel Tyra Banks.

#10YearChallenge...can't turn back the years! pic.twitter.com/htOU4fBVE5Whilst the challenge mostly involves uploading a photo of oneself, others have used the hashtag to raise awareness for pressing issues. One such example is Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma's spirited upload. On Twitter, he shared a photo of a coral reef which has since been polluted over the span of a decade.
