Abu Dhabi is cancelling black points for these offences

Police said on Sunday that except for big traffic offences such as reckless driving, driving at excessive speed, jumping red lights, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and others, all black points in minor traffic violations registered against drivers on Abu Dhabi roads before July 1 will be cancelled.
The move, which is part of Abu Dhabi Police's initiatives for 'The Year of Giving', is intended to give drivers a chance to clean up their act and change their road behaviour by abiding to traffic rules and regulations.
Traffic officials also said the initiative is also in line with police's efforts to motivate drivers into driving safely and carefully so they don't get booked again.
The Federal Traffic authorities on Saturday said the ministerial decision No. 178 of 2017 on the rules and procedures of traffic control and the new traffic violations and fines are set to be implemented by July 1.
Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police said: "The initiative to cancel black points benefits all drivers that have committed minor traffic offences in the emirate of Abu Dhabi."
Al Dhaheri said the new initiative should motive traffic law violators into changing their behaviour and learn how to comply with laws and regulations so as to enhance the force's efforts to make Abu Dhabi roads safer.
He called on all drivers to make use of the new initiative and cancel all black points written against their driving licences in minor traffic offences, get a clean driving record again and avoid their licences from being withdrawn from them in case they have exceeded the maximum 24 black points.
Abu Dhabi Police said they are keen on launching such initiatives to promote the culture of safe driving among drivers.
Authorities also urged all members of the public to contribute to the efforts of improving traffic safety standards in the emirate.
