A taxi driver in Paris locked two Thai tourists in his car and forced them to pay almost £200 (Dh945) for a trip that costs less than £50.
Chakrid Thanhachartyothin and his wife took the taxi from the Charles de Gaulle airport to the city centre when the driver began shouting: 'Pay me, pay me!' Chakrid said, "When the taxi arrived at our hotel, the driver picked up a meter and it showed a total of 240 euros (£209). We were shocked, because when we checked online, taxis the city were between 50 and 70 euros maximum."
The Thai couple recorded their ordeal and posted the video on YouTube which shows the driver claiming to be to be licensed and demanding the amount. The unidentified driver first told the couple to give him the Euro equivalent of £216 after he picked him up last Thursday, reported Mirror.uk.
"I didn't pay up easily, but the driver was angry and would not let us out. We said we would pay, and then go to the police station, but the driver stayed on the phone. He was speaking to his gang, and there was a real threat," Chakrid added.
The rogue driver also claimed to the couple that the price was set by his company, and not him. The video shows a heated argument between the couple and the driver who can be heard shouting 'You don't pay me, no problem' but still refused to allow the couple to get out. The scared couple finally gave in to the driver's demand and handed him 200 euros after which they were allowed out of the taxi.
Now, Chakrid hopes that the video on social media will help nab the roque driver. Moreover, local taxi firms also revealed that they know nothing about the driver.
