Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan on Saturday rejected the terms of reference (TOR) of the judicial commission announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Panama leaks on Friday.
"It is nothing but an eyewash to cover up facts rather than investigate the revelations made in the Panama Leaks," Imran said while talking to reporters after meeting here of PTI core committee which discussed the prime minister's address.
Imran said the inquiry announced by Sharif must begin from his and his children whose names have figured in the leaks. "Once it is done, I offer myself for accountability above everybody else," he said.
Meanwhile, Sharif's letter to Chief Justice Pakistan requesting formation of a judicial commission evoked mixed response in the country with opposition parties counting it as a victory of their stance but found the broad based terms of reference as too broad based.
The release of the TOR provided little opportunity for a comprehensive response amid government's emphatic propaganda that the opposition now had no cause for agitation since the prime minister has thrown himself and his family to impartial judicial process of accountability in response to their demand.
In their initial response, major opposition parties including the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Jamaat Islami welcomed the commission claiming the people have won in the face of government reticence to their demand.
PPP's Syed Khurshid Shah, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, acknowledged that the prime minister has done well to accept the demand for judicial commission but insisted that the government should have consulted in framing theTOR.
There were conflicting media reports about the prime minister again leaving for London next week while another section of the media reported that the ruling PML -N has decided to launch a contact campaign headed by Sharif beginning with a rally in Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
