The 'Panama Papers' figured in joint session of Parliament on Monday under pressure from combined opposition with Pakistan People's Party joining Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf chief Imran Khan in accusing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of stashing massive wealth abroad through offshore companies.
Opening the debate, eminent lawyer and PPP senator Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan said the prime minister, his two sons and daughter have admitted only after the leaks that they owned offshore companies to avoid taxes but committed perjury by claiming these were set up in 2007 even though there is credible proof of their existence in their ownership in early 1993.
He said the prime minister also abused his office by compelling a nationalised bank to borrow huge loan from a German bank for his Chaudhry Sugar mills.
In a fresh tweet PTI chief Imran Khan on Monday dared Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to show courage and make his taxes and assets public after 'Panama Papers' revelations.
Imran said British Premier David Cameron has made public the record of his tax declaration. Will our PM has the moral courage to make his taxes & assets public?"
Imran asked Sharif to step down as he has lost moral standing in the wake of massive leak of tax documents from a Panamanian law firm.
