Expats in Oman who are employed as sales or purchasing representatives will not have their visas renewed, according to new rules issued by the country's Ministry of Manpower.
According to the Times of Oman the new law will require such expats to leave the country once their visa expires.
Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Bakri, Minister of Manpower, issued the decree, which added: "Licenses for recruitment of a non-Omani workforce, and work-permit licenses issued for professions specified in Article 1 of this decision shall apply until the date of their expiry."
According to Oman's National Centre of Statistics and Information, there are approximately 1.7 million foreign workers in the Sultanate. This new decree is in line with Omanisation initiatives rolled out by the government.
