In an act that loosely resembled a scene from the 1975 Bollywood movie 'Sholay', a man climbed a 350-foot-tall mobile tower in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan taking a bottle of petrol with him to protest against the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmaavat' which is due to hit the screens on January 25.
According to ANI News, the man scaled up the tower saying he would come down only on the condition that the movie is banned across India.
'Padmaavat' has been caught in a raging row with some Rajput organisations demanding a ban on the film over alleged distortion of historical facts.
Bhansali was earlier assaulted on the film's set in Jaipur. In Kolhapur, the stage was vandalised. The film's director has also received threats from detractors and organisations which are up in arms against the period drama since its inception.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will hear on Tuesday a plea by the Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan governments seeking to block the release of 'Padmaavat'.
The counsels for the two states on Monday mentioned the matter for urgent hearing seeking modification/clarification of the court's January 18 order that stayed notification/orders of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Haryana government banning the release of the film in the three states.
